Common questions

Chafing dishes for buffets
A chafing dish holds hot food over a water bath heated by chafing fuel or an electric element, keeping it warm without drying. Food safety guidance is to keep hot food above 60 °C; roll-top and hinged lids keep heat in between servings.

How is it heated?
By chafing fuel in the burner holder under the water pan; fill the water pan with hot water first so food heats gently and evenly.

How should glass be handled?
Avoid sudden temperature changes, such as boiling water into a cold glass; wash it in a glass rack and store it so rims do not knock together.

How is it used?
Fill the water pan with hot water, preheat, add food that is already hot and keep the lid closed between servings.

How many are needed?
One per hot dish on the buffet, plus spares to swap in fresh food.
