Common questions

Matching the scourer to the surface
Green scouring pads cut grease and burnt food on pots and hard surfaces but scratch non-stick, glass and polished steel; sponge-backed scourers give a soft side and a scrub side; steel scrubbers are for baked-on grime on steel pans and grills; melamine sponges lift scuffs from walls and doors. Colour-code sponges by area like cloths.

How does it work?
The melamine foam acts like very fine sandpaper when wet, lifting scuffs and marks from walls, doors, tiles and trainers. Test glossy surfaces first.

How often should it be replaced?
Often in food areas, where sponges hold bacteria: replace them weekly, or sooner if they smell or break up.

Why colour-code cleaning tools?
A different colour for toilets, washbasins, general areas and food areas stops germs moving between them. A common scheme is red for toilets, yellow for washbasins, blue for general areas and green for food areas.
